The Pine Cone Reelers Square Dance Club of Augusta is finishing up another season of square dancing workshops and lessons. The club will have its last workshop/lesson on Thursday, May 6, following a club potluck lunch.
According to a news release from club president Carlene Kaler and club caller Bob Brown, of Newport, square dancers have two more big events coming. The weekend of April 26-28 is the 61st New England Square and Round Dance Convention to be held at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa in Stowe, Vermont. Then June 26-29 is the 68th National Square Dance Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, to be held at the Cobb Galleria Convention Center and Renaissance Waverly Hotel.
The New England weekend in Vermont will attract approximately 1,000 dancers from the six New England states and surrounding states and Canada. The national convention in Atlanta will bring about 8- to 10,000 dancers from all across the country and various other countries including Canada, Mexico, Austria, Australia, China, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, and the Phillipines. Many Maine dancers have already registered for both of these events. There are other camping/dancing weekends scheduled throughout the summer months, according to the release.
The Pine Cone Reelers Square Dance Club has already made arrangements for this fall’s lesson/workshop schedule. A beginner’s class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Lincoln School.
