UPSTREAM, and the Cobbossee watershed communities will celebrate Earth Day by welcoming home the little fish to the river city, Gardiner, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 20, at the Bridge Street bridge over Cobbossee Stream.
The environmental and economic benefits of clean water and fish passage will be highlighted, according to a news release from Tina Wood of the organization.
They also will work together to clean up Cobbossee Stream for a fitting welcome home to a keystone species. Just one of many fish, the alewife returns every spring by the thousands, supporting life in our streams, rivers, bays and oceans by providing important marine nutrients to eagles, herons, ospreys, otters, minks, fishers and more.
Those interested in helping should bring gloves.
