Matthew Brown, of Clinton, a senior at Lawrence High School in Fairfield, has been selected to receive the 2019 Principal’s Award, according to a news release by LHS Principal Mark Campbell.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school’s senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
During his tenure here at Lawrence High School, Brown has distinguished himself in the classroom and as a leader in the school and community. Academically, he has enrolled in Advanced Placement and advanced/honor courses in all four of the major contents and has consistently earned high honors. This fall after completing every mathematics course available at LHS, Brown enrolled in Series and Multi-variable Calculus at Colby College in Waterville.
While at Lawrence High School, he has been involved in co-curricular activities including golf, Math Team and tennis. A member of the LHS Chapter of the National Honor Society, Brown has been recognized by his teachers for his academic efforts and school citizenship as a Student of the Month recipient in each of his high school years.
A true gentleman, Brown ends each conversation with a smile and genuine thank you. Brown very much deserves this recognition, according to the release.
Brown and Campbell and other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon Saturday, April 6, at Jeff’s Catering in Bangor.
The luncheon recognizes these students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the name of Horace O. McGown and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the association. An additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA scholarship Golf Tournament.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
