The Damariscotta Mills Alewives Festival Committee has scheduled the 12th annual Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Alewives Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25, Memorial Weekend, according to a news release from the committee.
The event will be filled with adventures, music, educational exhibits and food. The one-day festival will be held under the leadership of former Nobleboro Selectperson Deborah Wilson.
At the festival committee’s Jan. 13 planning meeting at the home of Dick and Mary Chase, David Brydges stepped forward with others, to give Wilson, Mark Becker and their friends a chance to hand off the work that launches the festival they founded and have led for 11 years.
Brydges, the festival’s new manager, came from the United Kingdom to the U.S. in1970 to study mathematics at the University of Michigan.
There are many volunteer opportunities available. Those who can give a few hours of their time to work at the festival or who would like to become a member of the planning committee, should contact David Brydges at 832-1790 or db5d@math.ubc.ca. The next meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at the home of Dick and Mary Cash. For more information, contact Brydges.
