Winthrop Attorney Daniel J. Eccher will speak at the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber’s breakfast set for 7:15-8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the Winthrop Commerce Center, 16 Commerce Plaza, Winthrop.

How to navigate the long-term care system will be the topic, according to a news release from the chamber.

Nationally, the median annual cost for long-term care ranges from $48,612 to $102,200. The cost of a nursing home for three years could easily exceed $300,000.

How do families and aging individuals figure out how to plan and prepare for long term care?

Eccher, who specializes in elder law and is a partner with Levey, Wagley, Putman & Eccher, P.A., explains “many families are broadsided by a sudden need for a loved one to receive long-term care services, either in their home or in a facility,” according to the release.

“It is with advanced planning that I can help them the most,” Eccher added, according to the release. “But we can even help families save assets when the elder is on the facility doorstep or already admitted.”
