AUGUSTA — The Second annual Bob Madore Memorial Petanque Tournament will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Petanque Courts in Mill Park on Water Street, according to a news release from the Mill Park Petanque Club.

Madore was one of the first players to sign on to play petanque at Mill Park eight years ago. His love of the game spurned more players to come and enjoy the game, according to the news.

In late 2016, Madore was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and unfortunately in spring 2017 he died.

That fall, Mill Park Petanque started this tournament in his memory. The goal was to raise money, and instead of dividing it up for prizes, it was donated to pancreatic cancer research. The 2017 tournament raised $125.

This year Panolam Industries will match all proceeds.

All petanque players and nonplayers are invited to Mill Park to play or watch the games and help raise money for this worthy cause.
