Professional Disability Associates, a Portland disability services company, has been sold to the subsidiary of a Florida-based insurance company.

Brown & Brown of Daytona Beach announced its subsidiary, the Advocator Group, has acquired PDA for an undisclosed amount.

The PDA team will continue to operate from its Maine location, according to a prepared statement about the sale. The company, which reports revenues of about $15 million, provides specialty claims management services – including medical file review, vocational services and claim consulting – to major disability insurers, reinsurers and self-insured employers.

The Advocator Group, based in Wakefield, Massachusetts, is a national advocacy organization that helps people apply for and obtain Social Security disability insurance, and figure out Medicare benefits and coverage options, among other services.
