A Windsor man is expected to be arraigned in September on criminal charges stemming from an overnight standoff in June in Windsor.
In the meantime, Stephen Bourget, attorney for Brandon Brents, said based on psychological counseling that Brent is undergoing at the VA Maine Healthcare System-Togus, an agreement on a disposition in the case is in the works. Brents, 32, made his initial appearance in court July 6 at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta.
Brents has been charged with domestic violence reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and creating a police standoff.
In his affidavit requesting an arrest warrant, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeffrey Boudreau said he took a report shortly before midnight June 20 of a Windsor man shooting a rifle at his wife.
In the affidavit, Boudreau said when the woman arrived at their Greeley Road home that evening, she found her husband’s vehicle in a ditch at the end of their driveway. When she pulled into the driveway herself, she said, Brant appeared with a rifle in his hands, threatened to shoot her and fired one round. She fled and called the police.
Kennebec County deputies and troopers from the Maine State Police went to the home, where Brents was seen inside.
Brents gave himself up at 4:23 a.m., according to the news release from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. No one was injured.
Boudreau said he interviewed Brents, who has served in the military and said he had been drinking that night at home and at a friend’s house and had considered taking his own life. When his wife arrived home, he said he shot into the air, not at her, according to the affidavit.
His wife initially said she was unsure where Brents had pointed his weapon, but later said it had been pointed at her.
Boudreau said he took Brents to the hospital for evaluation because of the threats he had made against himself.
Bourget said he hopes to secure an earlier court date for his client.
