Eight area square dancers recently spent a weekend at East Hill Farms in Troy, New Hampshire, for advanced level square dancing for dancers from several New England states and three Canadian provinces.

Bob Brown and Cindy Fairfield, of Newport, Larry and Kathleen Hillman, of Fairfield, Fred and Nanci Temple, of Richmond, and Bruce and Margaret Carter, of Ellsworth, attended workshops April 6-8 and saw 10 squares of dancers experience the calling of Don Moger, of Montreal, Canada, and Ted Lizotte of Manchester, New Hampshire.

The dancing began after dinner on Friday night and went until 11 p.m. A Saturday morning workshop was followed by lunch and then an afternoon workshop was followed by a higher level workshop before breaking for dinner. Saturday night’s dancing went from 7 to 11:30 p.m., with an after party for those who wanted more.

Sunday morning, after breakfast and packing to leave, the group had another round of dancing until 11:30 a.m., after which all headed homes.

This year’s 60th New England Square Dance Convention took place April 26-28 at Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa, 1746 Mountain Road, Stowe, Vermont.

The convention brought dancers from 10 states and four provinces of Canada totaling just over 600 for the three days.
