The chairman of the Litchfield Select Board was re-elected on Tuesday, defending his seat from two challengers who together received about 50 percent of the vote, according to unofficial election results.
The chairman, Mark Russell, received 371 votes on Tuesday, according to the unofficial tally. The other two candidates, Renee Lachapelle and Richard “Ric” Swett, received 252 and 124 votes, respectively.
Russell had run for re-election on his experience and his record of keeping tax increases low during his previous years of service. Lachapelle and Swett have both argued that change is needed in the local leadership.
The Select Board race was held on the same day as a number of primary elections for state and federal office.
Swett also ran for two other positions, on the Regional School Unit 4 School Board and the Litchfield Academy board of trustees. But he lost both of those elections to Joan Thomas, an incumbent who received nearly two-thirds of the votes in each race, according to unofficial results.
