The Portland Sea Dogs scored four runs in the first inning Saturday, then watched their lead slip away.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies took advantage of big innings – and squanders by the Sea Dogs – to beat Portland 10-7 at Hadlock Field.

Chad De La Guerra hit a solo home run in the first inning. Doubles by Cole Sturgeon (one RBI) and Nick Lovullo (two RBI) gave Portland a 4-0 lead.

De La Guerra, Sturgeon and Tony Renda each recorded three hits for the Sea Dogs (11-21). Portland outhit Binghamton 13-11 but stranded 15 runners.

Patrick Mazeika hit a three-run homer in the sixth for the Ponies. Binghamton left fielder Tim Tebow was 0 for 3 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch twice.

Tebow also made a nice diving catch in the eighth inning with the bases loaded, holding the Sea Dogs to a sacrifice fly.

Binghamton starter Nabil Crismatt (4-1) was facing the Sea Dogs for the third time this season. In his previous two starts, he allowed a total of two runs.

But Crismatt struggled in the first inning (36 pitches) this time, allowing three hits and two walks. He recovered after that and needed only 56 pitches over the next four innings, allowing one more run.

Sea Dogs starter Kevin McAvoy (0-2) had a career 1.91 ERA in seven starts against Binghamton and looked primed to better those numbers when he gave up only one hit over the first three innings.

But the Ponies (16-17) got two runs in the fourth on a triple and two doubles.

In the fifth, the Rumble Ponies loaded the bases with one out on a single, a hit batter and a walk. Jake Cosart relieved, and quickly the game was tied on a single and a walk.

Tebow then grounded to second baseman Jeremy Rivera for a forceout at second, but De La Guerra threw wildly to first base and two runs scored.

Luke Tendler’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth closed Portland’s deficit to 6-5, but Binghamton recorded seven straight hits in the sixth and added four runs.

The Sea Dogs got their final two runs on a double by Danny Mars in the seventh and Austin Rei’s sacrifice fly in the eighth.

NOTES: The announced attendance was a sellout at 7,368. … With first-base prospect Sam Travis activated off the disabled list for Triple-A Pawtucket, corner infielder Jantzen Witte was sent to the Sea Dogs. Witte, 28, played in Portland in 2015. He began 2016 with the Sea Dogs but was promoted to Pawtucket after 11 games and has been there since.
