Maine brews will continue their international tour with a stop in Leeds, England.
The Maine Brewers’ Guild announced Wednesday that it will send the Maine Beer Box, a shipping container with room for 78 beers on tap, to Leeds for a beer festival in September.
This will be the second trip for the box, which was shipped to Iceland for a festival in June last year.
Maine beer fans will be rewarded for sharing some of their bounty. The beer box will be filled with beers from the United Kingdom and shipped back to Portland for November’s Winter Session beer festival.
Sean Sullivan, executive director of the brewers’ guild, said brewers wanted to visit England because English-style ales were the foundation for Maine’s beer industry. Stalwart brewers like Shipyard and Geary’s were built on English-style beers.
“The Maine Beer Box is a unique and prominent symbol of the collaborative spirit of Maine and American craft brewers. This is an exciting opportunity and homage to our heritage, which showcases how far craft beer has come in Maine in the last few decades,” Sullivan said.
