The Madison Farmers’ Market will open Saturday, May 12, at the Main Street Park in downtown Madison for its sixth season. The market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, through Oct. 20.

The market will offer vegetables, baked goods, honey, cheese, yogurt, meats, berries, jellies and pickles. In addition, the farmers all operate farms within 20 miles of the market’s location.

The market is facing a funding shortfall for it’s Maine Harvest Bucks program — a federally funded nutrition incentive program led by the Maine Federation of Farmers Markets. The program enables the market to offer “Bonus Bucks” to SNAP/EBT shoppers allowing low-income households to access more fresh fruits and vegetables. To raise funds for this program, the market will host a benefit Farmer Talent Show from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 27, in partnership with the East Madison Grange #228, on Grange Road in East Madison.

The show is an open mic event and any special talent is welcome. Be part of the show, or come to watch the festivities. Refreshments and beverages will be available. Festivities will include a raffle for a “Tub Trug Gift Basket” filled with garden supplies all donated by Johnny’s Selected Seeds. Prizes for top performances will be awarded by special guest judges. All proceeds to benefit the Madison Farmers’ Market’s Maine Harvest Bucks program.
