LISBON — After scraping enough runs together for a late rally past Dirigo, 5-4, on Tuesday, Lisbon left little doubt its offense was ready to hit against Oak Hill on Wednesday at Doughty Diamond.
DJ Douglas, Lucas Francis and Cole Bolduc collected three hits apiece and combined to drive in 10 runs as the Greyhounds pounded out 14 hits in four innings of a 19-2 victory over Lisbon.
Douglas’ bases-clearing triple highlighted an 11-run third for the Greyhounds (4-0). He also walked and scored twice. Francis had an RBI double, while Bolduc had three singles and scored twice.
“We had a bad game (Tuesday) here, so it’s good to come out and hit,” Douglas said. Ezra Juray singled in a run for Oak Hill (1-4), while Sam Lindsay had the Raiders’ other hit, a single, off of Lisbon’s Nick Austin (five innings, two earned runs, 5 Ks, one hit batter).
It looked like Lisbon might be in for another tight game after Juray’s RBI made it 3-2 in the second. But Austin settled in after that, retiring the 10 Raiders.
“After that second inning where we scratched across a couple of runs and it seemed like we were getting engaged. But give Lisbon credit,” Oak Hill coach Chad Stowell said. “They came right back and hit against us the next inning. They’re a good team and you can’t give a good team extra outs.”
Francis made it 4-2 with his ground-rule double in the bottom of the second. After Oak Hill starter Gavin Rawstron walked the bases full to start the third, Douglas broke it open by jumping on the first pitch he saw and drilling it into the gap in left-center.
“We’re a really aggressive team, especially the top part of the order. The first pitch we see that we like, our mindset is to attack,” he said. “I didn’t know (he had a triple) at first but I was just chugging.”
Lisbon sent 15 men to the plate in the inning. Francis had an RBI single to drive in Douglas. Bolduc added a two-run single and Noah Austin an RBI double.
In the fourth, Daytona McIver added the Greyhounds fourth and final extra base hit, a two-run triple.
“When we had people in scoring position we had a lot of hits bringing a lot of people in. They did a great job,” Lisbon coach Randy Ridley said. “We started off a little slow today, especially defensively making a couple of mistakes that we really can’t be making as the year goes along. But they adapted well. After two runs were scored (by Oak Hill), they responded with a big inning.”
