A Family Fun Day is set for noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at the Alfond Youth Center, 126 North St., in Waterville. The event will offer access to the center’s two gyms, climbing wall and pool.
The event is part of the GEAR Parent Network, a program of Crisis & Counseling Centers Inc., celebration of the 2018’s Children’s Mental Week and Month. Events will be held throughout the month of May, but GEAR will put a special focus on May 7-13, set aside to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week. Events will be held statewide to engage families and children in activities that support mental wellness in children.
This year’s events have moved away from the traditional Hall of Flags that has been historically held on the Friday of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week.
“Children’s Mental Health Awareness should be about family wellness and resiliency,” said Cindy Seekins, director of the GEAR Parent Network program, according to a news release from Jeb Murphy, Crisis & Counseling Centers, “which lead us to have a more event focused agenda this year. This way we are able to provide a space for families to come together.”
