WATERVILLE — A business breakfast about Maine’s Workforce Challenge will take place from 7:15 to 9 a.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Spann Student Commons Summit Room at Thomas College, 180 West River Road. The event will be hosted by the college and Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce.

Department of Labor’s Commissioner John Butera will give insight on the challenges of finding trainable staff and retaining them.

Butera, a Waterville resident, has served as Gov. Paul LePage’s senior economic adviser since 2011 and also has worked on economic and community development, business finance, workforce development and labor issues.

Previously, Butera spent nearly 30 years in economic development in the public and private realms, including holding positions within the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and serving as executive director of the Central Maine Growth Council. Butera holds a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

The cost of the business breakfast is $18 for members, or $25 at the door and for nonmembers. Breakfast is included with the reservation.
