WINSLOW — The Winslow softball team scored three times in the first inning and got a dominant debut pitching effort from junior Paige Trask in a 5-3 win over Messalonskee in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference game Monday at Laverdiere Field.
Trask allowed just three hits while striking out four for the Black Raiders (2-1). Sarah Guimond had two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored in the win. Bailey Robbins, Broghan Gagnon and Natalie Greene all drove in runs.
Makayla Wilson had a homer and two RBIs for Messalonskee (2-1).
NOKOMIS 6, LAWRENCE 3: The Warriors scored all six runs in the first two innings and held off the Bulldogs for the KVAC win in Newport.
Maci Leali had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Nokomis (2-0).
Haley Holt had two hits in the loss for Lawrence (2-1).
BELFAST 4, ERSKINE 2, 8 innings: Olivia Lovejoy had two singles and the Lions squandered a 2-0 lead before rallying in the 8th inning to grab the KVAC B victory.
Madison Boynton and Summer Hotham each had hits for the Eagles (0-2).
MT. BLUE 3, WATERVILLE 2: Jacelyn Daggett smacked a double to lead the Cougars in Waterville.
Maddy Smith picked up the win in the circle for Mt. Blue (2-0).
Coby Dangler had a double and a home run for Waterville (0-3). Molly Wasilewski added a double.
LISBON 7, CARRABEC 2: Sam LeBeau, Ashley Cates and Bailey Dunphy each had hits for the Cobras, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Greyhounds in North Anson.
Carrabec fell to 0-1.
Carly Drischler and Giana Russo each had doubles for Lisbon (1-0).
BASEBALL
ERSKINE 5, BELFAST 2: Caden Turcotte came on in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and got three outs to end the game and give the Eagles the KVAC B win in South China.
Turcotte also had two singles. Boomer Jorgensen and Sage Hapworth-Belanger chipped in two singles apiece as well for Erskine (1-1).
Belfast fell to 0-1.
MARANACOOK 7, MCI 0: Jay Lauter struck out seven and allowed just two hits in six innings to lead the Black Bear in Readfield.
Aric Belanger and Dan Garand each had doubles for Maranacook (2-1).
Isaac Bussell had a double for MCI (0-2).
VINALHAVEN/NORTH HAVEN 11-3, FOREST HILLS 4-15: Jakob Rivas went 4 for 4 with two triples and Forest Hills earned a doubleheader split at Thomas College with a victory in Game 2.
Carson Veilleux went 3 for 4 with a double in the second game. He went 2 for 4 in the opener for the Tigers (1-1) as well.
Vinalhaven/North Haven also moved to 1-1.
WATERVILLE 10, MT. BLUE 0, 5 innings: Cody Pellerin had three hits and drove in five runs to lead the Purple Panthers to the KVAC win.
David Barre doubled for Waterville (2-1). Colin Hutchins had a double for Mt. Blue (0-2).
MT. ABRAM 6, TELSTAR 5: The Roadrunners scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to earn their first MVC win of the season in Salem.
Sam Storer, Bryce Werzanski and Nate Luce combined to hold Telstar to just one run, with Luce earning the win in relief.
Ben DeBaise had a double in the win.
Telstar dropped to 0-1.
