Open Book Players will present its spring production of “The World of Carl Sandburg” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center, 280 Water St., in Gardiner.

Sandburg’s works, adapted by Norman Corwin, was first performed by Bette Davis and Lief Erickson, and a host of others in New York and on tour including Gary Merrill and Clarke Allen. The best of the Pulitzer Prize-winner’s verse, including some previously unpublished works and prose, as well as parts from the biography of Lincoln create a mosaic sample of this talented writer’s literary contributions, and the performance is interspersed with American folk songs from his Songbag.

The cast includes: Frank Omar and Bill Haley, both of Hallowell; Arthur Bourget, David Moisan and Constance LaFlamme, all of Gardiner; Christine Heckman, of Monmouth; Cindy Turcotte, of Bowdoin; Ginger Smith, of Winthrop; and Kathy Kauffman, of Auburn. Music is provided by Robert Giroux, of Belgrade, and Curt Jack, of Lewiston.
