Soren Nyhus, a Waterville Senior High School senior, has been selected to receive the 2018 Principal’s Award, Principal Brian Laramee announced in a news release. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic excellence, outstanding school citizenship and leadership.
Laramee stated,
“Soren has excelled in the classroom, as principal cellist, and on our school’s cross-country and tennis teams. Soren has completed many Advanced Placement and college courses all while maintaining a 97.8 grade point average. He is the vice-president of the National Honor Society, president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, captain of the Math Team, a member of Colby College’s Symphony Orchestra, and played with the All-National Orchestra. He has won many local and national music competitions. Soren has been an outstanding school citizen at Waterville Senior High School,” Principal Laramee said in the release.
Nyhus is invited to attend an honors luncheon Saturday, April 7, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor with other award winners and their principals. The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the drawing of 10 $1,000 scholarships. The Principal’s Award is presented in most Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
Nyhus is the son of Philip Nyhus and Gail Carlson.
