CARTHAGE — A local homeowner is accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend Wednesday night, threatening others with a machete and threatening to blow up a mobile home after police surrounded the trailer, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr.
Franklin County deputies went to 22 Tainter Corner Road after Oxford County dispatchers received a call for an ambulance for a woman reportedly in cardiac arrest. During a second call, a person was heard screaming in the background, Nichols wrote in a news release.
Oxford County dispatchers notified Franklin County dispatchers of the incident about 6:35 p.m.
Deputies Sgt. Matthew Brann, Andrew Morgan, and Brian McCormick responded and discovered the incident was a case of domestic violence and assault, Nichols wrote.
Anthony Marion, 33, “had assaulted his live in girlfriend and had barricaded himself inside the trailer refusing to come out,” according to Nichols.
“A relative of Marion who was at the scene along with other witnesses told how Marion had assaulted his girlfriend with his hands and had threatened others with a machete,” Nichols wrote.
Lt. David Rackliffe, Lt. David St. Laurent and officers from Dixfield and Mexico police arrived at the scene and established a perimeter around the trailer, while Brann and Morgan tried to establish contact with Marion throughout the night, according to the report.
“At one point when contact was established, Marion threatened to blow up the trailer by releasing gas inside of it and igniting it if deputies attempted to enter,” he wrote.
After several hours involving multiple phone calls and attempts to speak to Marion on a loudspeaker, Marion exited the trailer and immediately was taken into custody.
Marion was charged with class C domestic violence assault, elevated to a felony because of prior domestic violence assaults; and creating a police stand-off. Marion’s probation officer also put a probation hold on him.
A class C charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Morgan is the lead investigator.
Med-Care Ambulance and the East Dixfield Fire Department also assisted the police.
