NEW VINEYARD — Route 27 from Barker Road in Farmington to Route 234 in New Vineyard was closed Thursday afternoon after a tractor-trailer truck went off the road and flipped.
The driver, Spencer Larsen, 25, of Utah, was not injured but faces a charge of distracted driving in the single-vehicle accident, Maine State Trooper Randy Hall said.
Larsen was driving a 2011 Volvo truck south on Route 27 around 1:30 p.m. after picking up a load of wood products from Fletcher’s Mill, now known as Maine Wood Concepts, on Route 27 in New Vineyard.
Larsen said he was looking at his GPS to try to figure out the way to the interstate. His truck went off the road, hit and broke a utility pole, and flipped.
Larsen was driving for DDM Transport LLC, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Hall said.
Workers from Central Maine Power Co. arrived to deal with the downed lines, and Dutch Gap Auto workers hauled the truck.
CMP workers finished about 3:30 p.m., making way for the tow truck to try righting the truck. Emergency personnel expected it would take a while.
Members of New Vineyard Fire Department staffed the road closure at the intersection with Route 234, while members of Farmington Fire and Rescue re-routed traffic across the Barker Road and stopped traffic at Ramsdell Road.
The accident occurred just north of the Farmington town line at Ramsdell Road.
