FAIRFIELD — A man wearing ski goggles and brandishing a handgun robbed the Circle K convenience store on Norridgewock Road Sunday night, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
The robbery happened at about 7:45 p.m., according to a news release Monday from the Fairfield Police Department.
No one was injured and police so far have not made an arrest, according to a Fairfield police dispatcher.
One of the store clerks was taken to the hospital as a precaution because she is pregnant.
Police described the suspect as a white man wearing dark pants, a brown jacket, winter hat and ski goggles. He demanded that the clerk open the cash registers, grabbed the money and left on foot, walking south toward Old Center Road, police said.
There were customers in the store and in the parking lot when the robbery occurred.
Fairfield police Capt. Paul St. Amand said the robber pointed the gun right at the clerks who were behind the counter. He said the Circle K, previously known as Jock’s Variety, had not been robbed in recent memory.
The Circle K convenience store on Center Road in Fairfield was robbed in May 2016 by someone who also was armed. Police at the time said two men entered the store and one of them grabbed an undisclosed item and took off. A store clerk went outside to get a vehicle description and one of the men brandished a weapon and threatened the clerk, he said.
The store at 204 Center Road, which is Route 139, is one of three Circle Ks in Fairfield. The others are on Main Street and on Norridgewock Road, which was the scene of Sunday’s robbery.
The Cumberland Farms convenience store on Main Street in Fairfield was robbed in December 2014 and again in February 2015.
Police Chief Tom Gould could not be reached Monday for comment on whether anyone was ever charged in those robberies.
In Sunday’s robbery, a Maine State Police tracking dog led police to a location where a motor vehicle may have been parked. Several police officers from Fairfield, including Gould, were involved in the investigation. Police officers from Oakland and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene. A Delta Ambulance and a Fairfield Fire Department unit also were sent to the scene.
Police ask that anyone with information on the robbery to call Fairfield police at 453-9393.
