Fairfield police on Sunday identified the victim in a fatal, near head-on collision with a tractor trailer Saturday afternoon as being Jesse Quirion-Demo, 30, of Norridgewock.

Fairfield police Officer Casey Dugas said Quirion-Demo was driving a 2005 Buick LaSabre northbound on Route 139, also known as Norridgewock Road, around 2:15 p.m. Saturday when his car drifted into the southbound lane and was struck by a 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer registered to the H.P. Hood milk company traveling south. The truck, driver by Kyle Knox, 31, of Winterport, was heavily damaged. Knox was not injured, Dugas said.

“It appears that Quirion-Demo crossed the center line for an unknown reason,” Dugas said by phone Sunday morning. “Knox tried to avoid him, but was unable to and they struck nearly head-on about 500 feet from the Davis Road.”

Dugas said the state Department of Environmental Protection was called to the scene because of a fuel leak of about 50 gallons from the tractor trailer. Oakland police were called to assist and Maine State Police commercial vehicle units were dispatched to reconstruct the accident because it involved a tractor trailer.

Dugas said he didn’t anticipate charges to be filed as a result of the crash.
