UNITY — For the second day in a row, Mt. View Middle School was in lockdown after a threatening message was received.
According to Sgt. Nick Oettinger, of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in around 1:10 p.m. Friday and the lockdown lasted under an hour. In a lockdown, classrooms are locked, lights are turned off and students are encouraged to be quiet, as the potential threat is inside the building. Oettinger said the message was threatening in nature, but he would not elaborate beyond that.
He said a juvenile has been charged in connection with Friday’s incident but declined to give the gender. He said at this point, investigators do not believe Friday’s incident was related to the Thursday incident.
On Thursday, students were released for the day once sheriff’s deputies arrived at the school; whereas on Friday, the school was able to resume normal activities.
A news release from the sheriff’s office said the school also has taken disciplinary action against the student.
The Thursday incident is still under investigation.
