Two Florida men have pleaded guilty to stealing credit card numbers and buying items in Maine with the numbers.

Jose Castillo Febles, 30, of Doral, Florida, and Juan Carlos Febles, 52, of Miami pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Maine to conspiracy to commit access device fraud and aggravated identity theft. Juan Febles entered his plea Thursday and Jose Febles entered his guilty plea Friday.

According to authorities, the father and son used stolen credit and debit card numbers to buy items beginning in November 2015. In late May 2016, they traveled to Maine, where Jose Febles bought more than $500 worth of merchandise, using a credit card number stolen from a victim in Auburn, at a Portland Walgreen’s, and Juan Febles bought more than $700 worth of goods from an Augusta Home Depot using a number stolen from a victim in Vasselboro.

After a co-conspirator, Yaisder Herrera Gargallo, bought items at another Portland Walgreens using a stolen card number, suspicious store workers contacted police and provided a license plate number for the car in which the three were traveling. A Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy stopped the car and found the merchandise, additional fraudulent credit cards and a laptop computer later found to contain more credit card numbers and related data.

Gargallo pleaded guilty in June and awaits sentencing.

Jose Febles and Juan Febles each face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the conspiracy charge and a mandatory sentence of two years in prison on the aggravated identity theft charge, to be served consecutively to the sentence for the conspiracy charge. They will be sentenced at a later date.
