A crash on Interstate 295 in Portland involving a crane truck and at least one other vehicle shut down southbound lanes and snarled rush-hour traffic for more than two hours Friday afternoon and early evening.
A Maine State Police dispatcher said crews responded to the accident on southbound I-295 near Exit 7, just past Tukey’s Bridge, shortly before 4:30 p.m. The crane truck had slid sideways and struck the center lane divider and was blocking two southbound lanes, forcing traffic to be rerouted around the area until it could be removed. A small sedan sustained heavy front-end damage in the accident and also was towed away.
One person was taken by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It was not immediately clear what caused the accident, although traffic already was heavy and slowed by driving rain at that time.
Traffic delays lasted until about 6:45 in the southbound lanes.
