A Jay woman’s boyfriend has been charged with murder in connection with her death, police said Tuesday.
Maine State Police have identified the woman found dead in a local residence Tuesday as Wendy Douglass, 51, a case authorities called suspicious.
Charged with murder is her longtime live-in boyfriend, James Sweeney, 56, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. Sweeney was taken to the Franklin County Jail in Farmington after his arrest, McCausland said.
Douglass was found dead in her home on Jewell Street in downtown Jay, according to McCausland.
Earlier in the day, McCausland had said one man was being questioned in connection with Douglass’ death. Police have not released a cause of death, but an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
