Freeport police were conducting a search Monday night for a woman who stole a car, dumped it, and then fled on foot in the vicinity of the Desert Road exit of Interstate 295.

The incident was reported around 8 p.m. Police said the woman eluded police after abandoning the stolen car at Exit 20.

As of 8:45 p.m., police said the woman was still at large. Maine State Police were assisting Freeport police in the search.
