OAKLAND — Messalonskee High School recently announced that Addison Littlefield, Zoe Penttila, Gracie Vicente and Ashton Carlson were named January Students of the Month.

These students were chosen for their academic improvement/excellence and their contribution to the Messalonskee school community. The students were nominated by faculty members and chosen by the school’s Culture Committee and Leadership Team, according to a news release from the school.

Littlefield, a freshman, is an outstanding musician, recently earned a spot on the Kennebec Valley Honor Choir. She is known as an amazing role model for fellow students.

Penttila, a sophomore, has improved significantly as a writer, has shown great dedication to the Poetry Out Loud program, a national recitation competition. Charitable by nature, she always takes time to help any friend in need.

Vicente, a junior, brings a positive attitude and upbeat personality to the classroom. She, too, makes a point of being supportive and encouraging to her peers.

Senior recipient Carlson has managed to overcome life challenges through her grit and determination and at the same time remain connected to her education. She is a person of strength, resilience, and independence.
