Several area fire departments responded to a fire that burned down a two-bay garage on Friendship Drive in Manchester around 5 p.m. Monday.
The fire was initially roaring and sending a thick column of black smoke into the sky, but within a half hour, firefighters contained the worst of the blaze. They also appeared to prevent the flames from spreading to a home located about 30 feet away.
The garage appeared to be totally destroyed. The property was on Friendship Drive, which is a small residential road just off Prescott Road.
Around 5:30 p.m., Chief Clarence “Bug” Cram of the Manchester Fire Department said the fire was under control, but that he was too busy to discuss the response further.
More information about the fire was not available Monday.
The initial call about the fire came in at 4:50 p.m. Police dispatchers said there may have been propane in the garage, but firefighters could not immediately confirm that report.
All the departments from the Lakes Region Mutual aid group were called to respond to the fire.
