WATERVILLE — Five different Purple Panthers scored at least eight points as a balanced scoring attack led Waterville to its first Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win of the season, 54-51 over Erskine Academy in boys basketball at Donovan Gym on Monday afternoon.
Ben Danner and Alan Martin each scored nine points for Waterville (1-10).
Jack Jowett scored a game-high 23 points in the loss for Erskine (6-5).
SKOWHEGAN 61, WINSLOW 59, OT: Garrett McSweeney scored 23 points, including the game-winning shot with 3 seconds left in overtime, to lift the host Indians to the win.
McSweeney also had six of his points in the overtime. Cam Barnes and Marcus Christopher added 12 points apiece for Skowhegan (5-5).
Dylan Hutchinson scored 15 for Winslow (8-2) while Keanu Earle chipped in 12.
NOKOMIS 54, MCI 41: Josh Smested had 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals to lift the Warriors to the KVAC B win in Newport.
Zach Hartsgrove added 18 points for Nokomis (7-4).
Owen Williams led MCI (2-10) with 12 points while Jose Montes-Valverde chipped in 10.
FOREST HILLS 70, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 36: Parker Desjardin scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Tigers to the win in South Portland.
Kenn Vito Cruz added 12 points, while Brandon Gilboe scored 11 for Forest Hills (7-5).
Killian Patterson and Mason Jones each finished with 11 points for GPC (1-9).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
WATERVILLE 63, ERSKINE 16: Jordan Jabar scored a game-high 20 points and MacKenzie St. Pierre added 12 as the Panthers cruised to the KVAC A victory.
Sadie Garling scored 11 points for the Purple Panthers (7-4) as well.
Liz Sugg scored six points to lead the Eagles (2-9).
NOKOMIS 48, MCI 27: Sidney Moore and Chelsea Crockett each scored 17 points to lead the Warriors to the KVAC win in Pittsfield.
April McAlpine led MCI with nine points. Nokomis is 9-2, MCI is 7-5.
LAWRENCE 59, HAMPDEN 52: Camryn Caldwell and Molly Folsom scored 18 points apiece to lead the Bulldogs to the KVAC B win in Fairfield.
Caldwell connected on four 3-pointers for Lawrence (6-5).
Marissa Gilpin led Hampden (8-3) with 15 points.
WINTHROP 42, CARRABEC 20: Adlin Chaparin scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Ramblers to the Mountain Valley Conference win in North Anson.
Aalihay Wilson-Falcone added nine points for Winthrop (6-4), which outscored the Cobras 27-8 over the course of the second and third quarters.
Mackenzie Baker led Carrabec (2-8) with seven points.
MOUNT VIEW 52, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 35: Andrea Crosby scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Mustangs to the win in Thorndike.
Halle Reynolds added 12 points, all on free throws, for Mount View (4-6) and Shala Davis scored 12 as well.
Spruce Mountain (3-9) was led by Haley Turcotte with 12 points.
BOYS HOCKEY
WATERVILLE 13, PRESQUE ISLE 0: Jackson Aldrich polished off a first-period hat trick, and Justin Wentworth scored his state-leading 21st, 22nd and 23rd goals of the season, as the Purple Panthers remained unbeaten at Alfond Rink.
Cody Pellerin added a pair of goals for Waterville (9-0-0), while Matt Jolicoeur, Michael Bolduc, Zach Menoudarakos, Chase Wheeler and Zach Smith also scored.
Andre Daigle made 25 saves for Presque Isle (3-7-0).
GIRLS HOCKEY
WINSLOW/GARDINER 8, YARMOUTH/FREEPORT 3: Evelyn Hinkley had a hat trick plus two assists to lead the Black Tigers to the win at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
Gabrielle Hebert added a pair of goals and three points for Winslow/Gardiner (8-5-0), which scored twice in a 28-second span in the third period to seal the win.
Georgia Giese scored twice for Yarmouth/Freeport (5-9-0).
