A car struck a school bus on Route 35 in Kennebunk Thursday morning after apparently sliding out of control, police said.
Four students were on board the bus, but none were injured. The driver of the bus also was uninjured. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuroies and was treated at the scene, police said.
The accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Alewife Road, or Route 35, at the intersection of Walker Road.
A vehicle driven by Neico Proctor, 26, of Dayton was traveling south on Alewife Road when Proctor lost control and struck the front of the RSU 21 bus, which was stopped on Walker Road waiting to turn onto Alewife Road.
The bus, which was driven by Renda Turner, 49, of Alfred, sustained minor damage. Proctor’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
A preliminary investigation of the crash indicates that road conditions and speed were factors leading to the crash, according to Kennebunk police Lt. Eric O’Brien.
The school department issued this statement Thursday morning: “RSU 21 Bus 27 was in a minor accident this morning. Everyone is alright. Four elementary students were on board and are fine. The parents were notified and school counselor met them when they arrived at school to check in.”
