A 76-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries Friday morning when the sport utility vehicle he was driving veered off Guilford Road in Cambridge and rolled over, police said.
Sheldon Woodard was ejected through a passenger side window of his 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada SUV and he was found lying in the road by a passing motorist, according to a news release from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Woodard was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of serious head and possible internal injuries, which authorities described as possibly life-threatening.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the crash scene at 8:21 a.m. Police said light snow had fallen before the crash, making the roads wet and slick, and they believe excessive speed was also a factor.
Woodard’s vehicle had skidded across the southbound lane, hit a curb and rolled over several times.
Also responding to the crash were Cambridge and Harmony firefighters and Harmony Rescue. Police are still investigating the crash.
