A Troy man was arrested Tuesday on a charge of domestic violence assault after he allegedly pushed his girlfriend and tried to stop her from calling for help, police said.

Scott Edmands, 44, was charged with class C domestic violence assault and class D obstructing the report of a crime, according to a news release Wednesday from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 call about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday about a domestic disturbance at a residence on Troy Center Road, according to the release. Deputy Merl Reed responded to the call with Deputies Chris West and Wiley McVety.

Police said Edmands had been in an argument with his girlfriend and had pushed the woman and took her cellphone away when she tried to call authorities.

Edmands is being held without bail until arraignment, police said.
