A pedestrian and a Livermore Falls police car collided Friday night, sending the pedestrian to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the incident with help from the Lewiston police, initially reported that the police cruiser, which was headed south on Park Street in Livermore Falls, hit Joseph Slaver. Later Saturday, William Gagne, the office’s chief deputy, said in an email that Slaver “struck” the passenger side of the cruiser, damaging the car’s front fender, A-pillar and the area around the mirror on the passenger side.
Attempts Saturday to reach Gagne for a further explanation of the incident were unsuccessful.
Crashes involving police cars are usually investigated by police from jurisdictions other than the one involved in the crash.
Slaver was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with injuries from the crash and was reported in critical condition Saturday.
The Livermore Falls police cruiser was driven by officer Troy Reed.
