Emails between Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin have triggered another FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. Here’s a quick look at the couple: Weiner served New York’s 9th congressional district from 1999 until 2011, when he resigned over a sexting scandal.
Married to Abedin, a long-time personal aide to Hillary Clinton, Weiner was considered to be on an inside track to Democratic leadership before the scandal broke. Earlier this year, Abedin announced that she was separating from Weiner because of his ongoing sexting scandals.
Weiner’s public downfall began in 2011 when he sent a link of a sexually explicit photograph of himself over his Twitter account to an adult woman. Weiner at first denied sending the image, but later he admitted he had “exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last three years” and apologized. Weiner resigned shortly afterward.
Another scandal broke out in 2013 after Weiner had joined the New York City mayoral race and explicit photos surfaced that Weiner had sent to another woman under the alias “Carlos Danger.”
In August, the New York Post reported that Weiner had sent explicit photos to a third woman. One of the photos showed him lying in bed with his young son.
Huma Abedin has served for many years as a staff member and adviser to Hillary Clinton.
Abedin has drawn criticism from Republicans for being employed simultaneously by the State Department, the Clinton Foundation, Clinton’s personal office, and a private consulting firm with ties to the Clintons.”
