The good news keeps coming for the Winthrop High School golf team.
Already crowned Mountain Valley Conference champions, the Ramblers had three players earn spots in the Class C individual championships during Wednesday’s 18-hole qualifying round at Natanis Golf Course. Dirigo got the top team prize, shooting a 337 to finish second and qualify for the Class C team championships, and was followed by Madison (372), Carrabec (426) and Mountain Valley (450). Winthrop was the top scoring team with a 333, but had already clinched its spot in the team championship by beating Dirigo head-to-head on Monday.
Dirigo and Winthrop will meet Forest Hills, which won the East/West Championship at Lakewood Golf Course Wednesday, in the Class C championships. Forest Hills shot 347 to take the title ahead of Valley (413) and Rangeley (496).
Charlie de Haas led Winthrop with a 76, wrapping up an individual tournament spot along with teammates Zac Robertson (79) and Brogan Plossay (85). Ben Thomas also scored for the Eagles with a 93.
Though it settled for second in the team event, Dirigo had four players — Mike Kersey (78), Jacob Gaudin (79), Mason Corriveau (89) and Gavin Hebert (93) — qualify for individuals. Madison’s scorers were Brock Campbell (86), Logan Smith (91), Noah Cowan (96) and Caleb Cowan (99), with Campbell and Allison Dean (107) advancing to the individuals.
Katie Dixon led Carrabec with an 89 that was good enough for individual qualification, while Austin Corson (109), Nick Dube (110) and Paige Giroux (118) also scored for the Cobras. Mitchell Tarrio (Kents Hill, 72) and Trevor Flannagan (Monmouth, 87) also made it to the individuals.
Forest Hills was led by Carson Veilleux (74), Javier Padilla (88), Elise McKendry (91) and Quentin Rodriguez (94), with Veilleux, Padilla and McKendry qualifying for the individual championship.
