The body of a teenager from Hollis who fell off a pontoon boat Wednesday on Long Lake in Bridgton was recovered Thursday evening by game wardens.
The man was identified as 19-year-old Jesse Nicholas Cardone, according to a news release sent by Cpl. John MacDonald, spokesman for the Maine Warden Service.
Cardone’s body was recovered from Long Lake at 6:10 p.m. in about 42 feet of water. It was found by the warden service after searchers switched from using divers to side scan sonar equipment in a 10-acre search area in the southern portion of Long Lake near Naples, Harrison and Bridgton. The warden service said with underwater visibility poor, the sonar was safer and more effective.
Cardone’s body was transported to the Chandler Funeral Home in South Paris. The state medical examiner will examine his body Friday. The drowning is under investigation by the warden service.
Cardone was riding on the front of the pontoon boat when he fell overboard and went under the boat just before noon on Wednesday. Witnesses said the boat struck Cardone after he fell. He floated to the surface briefly but then sank. He was not wearing a life jacket.
The warden service said the man was boating with his family and a family from Texas. Passengers included three adults, two teenagers and two toddlers.
