Police have arrested an 80-year-old Florida man in connection with the strangling death of his one-time neighbor and friend, an 86-year-old Presque Isle man who was found in his mobile home last Saturday, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The two men were neighbors in Clearwater, Florida, and had known each other for three or four years, McCausland said.

Robert Craig was arrested Thursday in the parking lot of a business in Largo, Florida, and is being held on a fugitive from justice charge. He will face a murder charge when he is returned to Maine, McCausland said in a news release.

The body of Leo Corriveau was discovered by relatives at his home on Houlton Road late Saturday afternoon. He lived alone in the mobile home.

McCausland said Craig had recently come to Maine with Corriveau to spend a few weeks at his Presque Isle home.

Craig is expected to make his first court appearance in Florida on Friday or Monday.

Maine State Police in Clearwater worked with the Clearwater Police Department on the case and arrested Craig without incident.
