Reading, Pa. — K.C. Serna scored on a single by Harold Martinez with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Reading Fightin Phils to a 5-4 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday night.
Portland scored in each of the first three innings to build a 3-0 lead. The Fightin Phils responded with two runs in both the third and fourth innings to pull ahead 4-3.
In the top of the sixth, Tim Roberson doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ali Solis to make it 4-4.
Aneury Tavarez had two hits, including a double, and scored a run for the Sea Dogs. Ryan Court hit an RBI single.
The Sea Dogs also scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Vinicio.
In the opener, Jake Fox scored on a single by Angelo Mora with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as Reading rallied for a 2-1 win.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth. Court led off for Portland with a single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Wendell Rijo.
Reading tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI double by Jorge Alfaro off Portland starter Keith Couch.
Couch, a former Sea Dog (2013-14) making his first appearance with Portland since being assigned from Triple-A Pawtucket on May 2, gave up one run on three hits while striking out three and walking two over six innings.
Tavarez was the lone repeat hitter for the Sea Dogs, collecting a pair of doubles. Roberson also doubled for Portland and Cole Sturgeon hit a single.
Reliever Williams Jerez took the loss.
