WATERVILLE — Colby jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but couldn’t keep the University of Maine from storming back behind Tyler Schwanz for a 9-3 victory in the Mules’ non-conference season finale at Coombs Field on Wednesday.

Schwanz had a home run and two doubles and drove in a pair of runs for the Black Bears (11-22). Kevin Stypulkowski also homered for Maine while Connor Johnson threw five innings of scoreless, two-hit relief to pick up the win. Zach Ellenthal went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Mules (16-27).

SOUTHERN MAINE 10, BATES 7: Messalonskee graduate Jake Dexter pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings of relief with two strikeouts to pick up the win for the Huskies in Gorham.

Dexter, a freshman, improved his record to 5-1 this season and also added an RBI double in the win for USM (27-11). His older brother, Sam, a senior, went 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

Brendan Fox paced Bates (12-20) with two singles and a triple.
