JAY — The Waterville softball team survived a late charge from previously unbeaten Spruce Mountain to earn its first win of the season, a 6-5 decision in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B game Friday.
Madison Clowes picked up the win for the Purple Panthers (1-4) in the circle after entering for starter Shelby Place in the second inning.
Haley Turcotte and Julianne Doiron each had three singles for Spruce Mountain (3-1), which scored three of its five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
TELSTAR 3, CARRABEC 2: Olivia York picked up the win in the circle, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out seven in an Mountain Valley Conference game in Bethel.
Sam LeBeau took the loss for Carrabec (1-3) despite allowing just two hits and two walks to go along with seven strikeouts. Telstar improved to 3-0.
MESSALONSKEE 7, LAWRENCE 0: Mackenzie Charest and Sarah Labbe each drove in a pair of runs for the unbeaten Eagles (5-0) in Oakland.
Madisyn Charest and Taylor Easler each added a pair of singles, while Kirsten Pelletier struck out 12 to earn the victory.
Lawrence dropped to 2-3.
MADISON 11, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 2: Madeline Wood struck out 15 and Kayla Bess had a pair of hits to lead the Bulldogs (4-0) to the MVC victory in Rumford.
FOREST HILLS 13, VALLEY 8: Linda Riley hit a three-run home run to support winning pitcher Caitlin Logston as the Tigers prevailed in an East/West Conference game at Thomas College in Waterville.
Kendra Sweet had a triple and a double for the Cavaliers (0-1).
CONY 9, MT. BLUE 7: Cony survived nine errors thanks to six extra base hits and held on to defeat Mt. Blue in a KVAC game in Farmington.
Haley Ward and Cassidy Turgeon each doubled twice, while Skyler Watson doulbed and Autumn Sudsbury hit a two-run homer for the Rams (4-1). Kayleigh Fontaine and Lauren Guppy had a double apiece for the Cougars (2-3).
EDWARD LITTLE 6, SKOWHEGAN 4: Edward Little (5-0) scored two runs in the first inning and four more in the third to pull out a KVAC A victory in Auburn.
Sydney Ames, Wiley Bedard and Annie Worthing each doubled to lead Skowhegan (2-3).
BASEBALL
VALLEY 30, FOREST HILLS 2, 5 innings: Cody Laweryson had three hits, including a double, as the Cavaliers rolled to an East/West win at Thomas College.
Collin Miller added two hits for Valley (1-0) while Luke Malloy was the winning pitcher. Forest Hills (0-3) got both of its runs on a single from Caleb Lacasse in the first inning.
WATERVILLE 15, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 2: Dalton Wood homered in the third inning and the Purple Panthers got hits from eight of the nine spots in the lineup to post the win in Jay.
Alex Mayheux had three hits for Waterville (2-3), which also had six stolen bases on the day.
Spruce Mountain fell to 1-4 with the loss.
ERSKINE 10, MCI 0, 6 innings: Cody Taylor had three hits, including a double, to lead the Eagles in a KVAC B shutout of the Huskies in Pittsfield.
Jake Suga also doubled for Erskine (3-1). Noah Bonsant and Nate Howard combined on the mound to limit MCI (0-4) to three hits.
CONY 5, MT. BLUE 3: Zach Charest and Taylor Heath drove home the tying and winning runs, respectively, in the sixth inning as Cony rallied to defeat Mt. Blue in a KVAC A tilt in Augusta.
Kolbe Merfeld struck out four and walked two to pick up the victory for the Rams (2-3). Ethan Andrews had a double for the Cougars (0-5).
BOYS LACROSSE
LAWRENCE 7, ERSKINE 5: Gunner McAllister poured in three goals and two assists to lead the Bulldogs to a KVAC B win over the Eagles in South China.
Connor Martin added a pair of goals for Lawrence (1-2). Caleb Tyler and Josh Reed each scored twice for Erskine (0-4).
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
COLBY 12, BATES 1: Tori Sansone and Syklar Labbe each had three hits and the Mules pounded out 18 in total in a rout of the Bobcats in Lewiston.
Julia Saul pitched all seven innings for Colby (13-15, 4-6 New England Small College Athletic Conference), allowing five hits and three walks while striking out six. She also helped her own cause with a pair of hits and an RBI.
Karen Lockhart had a double for Bates (5-30, 0-10 NESCAC).
COLLEGE BASEBALL
COLBY 11, BATES 6: Zach Ellenthal went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Soren Hanson drove in four runs as Colby racked up 13 hits against NESCAC rival Bates in Lewiston.
Tommy Forese scored four runs while Matt Garcia drove in two apiece for the Mules (11-18, 4-6 NESCAC). Will Cohen picked up the victory with 5 1/3 innings of strong relief. Brendan Fox knocked in two runs for the Bobcats (10-18, 2-7 NESCAC).
