Several headstones at a South Portland cemetery were vandalized over the weekend, police confirmed.
Sgt. John Sutton said Sunday evening that the South Portland Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the vandalism, which was reported at Forest City Cemetery at 232 Lincoln St. No arrests have been made.
Authorities said the vandalism was discovered by a local man and his brother who were visiting their parents’ grave sites on Saturday morning.
Though Forest City Cemetery is located in South Portland, the 97-acre cemetery is managed by the city of Portland.
WMTW-TV reported that three headstones were knocked over – mostly likely sometime during the night on Friday.
