A Florida medical examiner on Monday was still trying to determine the cause of the death of an Alfred woman whose remains were discovered last week.

Judith “Judi” Therianos, 52, had left for Tampa Bay in February to visit friends, but hadn’t made contact with family in Maine for days when they reported her missing on March 19.

She was last seen on March 14, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, whose Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case.

On Thursday, a woman collecting cans by a highway in New Port Richey, Florida, noticed a smell coming from a wooded area nearby, went to find out what was causing it, discovered a body and called police.

The office of the District Six Medical Examiner identified the body as that of Therianos on Saturday. Eddie Daniels Jr., public information officer for the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, said Monday he didn’t have a time frame for when the medical examiner would determine the cause of death and had no suspect information to release.

According to a Facebook page called “Help Find Judi Therianos,” she was in the company of a man called “Charlie” on March 11 when she stopped by a friend’s house in New Port Richey to pick up clothes. He is described as slim, with long white hair and a long white beard, and between 65 and 75 years old. He was driving a white GMC Terrain sport utility vehicle. Therianos, who had a black eye at the time, told her friend that Charlie had a boat.

Friends and family members of Therianos contacted Monday either declined to comment or were not available to talk.
