A Wilton man suffered minor injuries Tuesday when he tried to extinguish a small fire at the back of his mobile home.
Wilton Fire and Rescue went around 1:12 p.m. Tuesday to the fire at 44 Black Road, the home of Michael Dalot.
Before firefighters arrived at the scene, Dalot tried to use snow to put out the fire and burned his fingers, according to Fire Chief Sonny Dunham.
He was treated by NorthStar emergency responders on the scene and required no further medical attention.
Dunham said the fire resulted in about $2,000 worth of damage to the back of Dalot’s home, which he said is still livable. The home is not insured, Dunham said.
The fire is believed to have started when hot creosote dripped from the stove’s exterior chimney, setting the leaves and debris around the base of his home on fire.
Firefighters from Wilton, East Dixfield, Farmington and Jay were able to extinguish the fire in about 15 minutes.
Dunham said he thinks Dalot is the home’s sole occupant.
