Augusta police arrested a 27-year-old transient Thursday in connection with an attempted robbery Saturday at the Augusta Quick Mart on Western Avenue.

Detectives, having received information from the public, were able to identify Corey Ross Swift as the suspect they were seeking, and patrol officers found and arrested him Thursday, according to a police news release.

Swift is being held at the Kennebec County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

The attempted robbery was reported at 6:15 p.m. Saturday after a white man, described as 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, entered the store, demanded money from the clerk and threatened to use a gun. The suspect never displayed the firearm and left the store after he was unable to obtain any money, police said.

Augusta police a state police dog team searched the area but were unable to find the suspect that evening.
