TOPSHAM — After winning the Class A state championship last weekend, the Skowhegan wrestling team continued its strong season Saturday at Mt. Ararat High School by qualifying six wrestlers for the New England championships.

Cody Craig (106 pounds), Samson Sirois (126), Cooper Holland (132), Julian Sirois (152), Kameron Doucette (160), and Logan Stevens (182) all earned trips to New Englands on March 4-5 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Mt. Ararat hosted the annual New England qualifier Saturday, with the top three wrestlers in each class advancing.

Craig won the 106-pound match with an 8-0 major decision over Leo Amabile, of Massabesic. Julian Sirois won the 152-pound match with a 6-0 decision over Bryce Whittemore, of Dirigo. Holland, Stevens and Doucette each finished runners-up in their respective weight classes while Samson Sirois won the consolation final in the 126-pound class.

Nokomis qualified two wrestlers — Christopher Wilson (195) and Hunter Glidden (285). Wilson was named the Dennis Bishop Most Outstanding wrestler of the tournament after he pinned Brandon Brock, of Foxcroft, in 1:55 in the finals.

Glidden defeated Michael Darling, of Deering, 4-3 in the finals.

Peter Del Gallo continued his strong season as well. The Gardiner senior, fresh off his state title last weekend, won the 120-pound division by defeating Austin Shorey, of Noble, 3-0 in the finals.

Also qualifying Saturday: Devin Vigue, of Winslow (113 pounds), Oak Hill’s Danny Buteau (120), Ryan Fredette, of Winslow (170), Devon O’Connor, of Cony (195), Nat Beckwith, of Winslow (220) and Max Storey, of Cony (220).
