An arrest warrant has been issued for a New York man identified by authorities as the fourth person involved in the drug-related killing of a man at an Augusta apartment in November, but no new information has helped police seeking his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, an indictment against 26-year-old Aubrey Armstrong was unsealed by a judge Thursday at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta. The indictment, dated Jan. 22, charges Armstrong with murder, felony murder and robbery in connection with the Nov. 23 killing of Joseph Marceau.
Damik Davis, Zina Marie Fritze and Michael Sean McQuade were also charged with those same three counts and indicted on Jan. 22. Fritze died after she was found hanging in her cell at the Kennebec County jail last month.
The indictments against all the suspects do not include case details nor the evidence authorities would present at trial. Police have not said how Marceau died.
Marceau was found dead the night of Nov. 23 in an apartment at 75 Washington St. when police responded to a report of a disturbance there about 8 p.m. The victim lived about a mile from where his body was discovered.
The night Marceau was killed neighbors in the Washington Street apartment building said they heard a series of noises emanating from the apartment occupied by McQuade and Fritze. Records indicate the two were being evicted from their apartment.
Authorities on Tuesday identified Armstrong as a suspect in the killing after not being able to find him. Police said Armstrong, of Far Rockaway, New York, probably fled back to New York after the November murder of Marceau.
Police have been working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service and New York law enforcement agencies to find Armstrong. His last known address was 2312 Oceancrest Blvd., Far Rockaway, New York.
Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said via email Thursday morning that there is a warrant issued for Armstrong’s arrest, but he said there is no new information on his whereabouts.
Davis was arrested shortly after Marceau’s body was discovered. McQuade and Fritze were taken into custody Jan. 22 on alleged probation violations.
The defendants each face a minimum penalty of 25 years in prison without the possibility of release or parole on the murder charge. The felony murder charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years and comes from the assertion that the murder took place during a robbery.
Police ask that anyone with information on Armstrong’s whereabouts call state police in Augusta at 624-7076 or a local law enforcement agency.
