An additional four people have been arrested in connection with a Jan. 8 burglary and robbery of a general store in Burnham, police said Monday.
In addition to David Pedone, who was arrested Jan. 15 on a charge of robbery, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office has also arrested John Ryan Jr., 19, of Fairfield; Matthew Shaw, 19, of Hartland; and Sarah Chase, 18, of Burnham. They are each charged with robbery, burglary and theft, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Michael McGregor, 22, of Pittsfield, has also been charged with burglary and theft, according to the press release.
The five are accused of burglarizing Patterson’s General Store in Burnham and knocking the store owner to the ground as they fled the scene. The charges for some of the people involved were elevated to robbery because of the use of force, according to police.
Detective Gerry Lincoln, the lead investigator in the case, said the estimated cost to the store from the burglary was $4,500, including stolen merchandise and cash and damage to a security system that the group allegedly tried to disable.
Among the stolen goods were cartons of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, lighters, alcohol and other items, Lincoln said.
Information from the case is being shared with other law enforcement agencies and may result in additional charges for similar crimes in neighboring areas, according to the press release.
