WATERVILLE — The Police Department is returning property that was taken from parked vehicles in a series of break-ins this week at Colby College.
Police said they have no suspect in the thefts.
Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said Friday that a large amount of stolen items, including skis, ski boots, snowboards and lacrosse equipment, was discovered behind the Elm Plaza shopping center by the center’s property manager on Wednesday morning.
Police found an aircraft boarding pass with the equipment that led them to a Colby College student whose belongings turned out to be stolen, Rumsey said.
Investigators think there were at least three automobile burglaries Tuesday night into Wednesday on the Colby campus, he said. Police think all of the vehicles were unlocked when the break-ins occurred.
After discovering the property, Waterville police asked Colby security to put the word out to students who were missing property.
So far, the department has returned property to three people, but it is likely more vehicles were burglarized, Rumsey said.
Some students are on campus, but the full student body has not returned from holiday break, Rumsey said.
There are no suspects in the case, he added.
